At Loyola Prep, grounded firmly in our Catholic identity, we believe that Religious Education is more than a subject, it is a way of nurturing hearts, minds and lives in the spirit of our Jesuit values. Drawing on our motto “Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam” (for the greater glory of God), RE at Loyola is about enabling our boys to know God, to recognise His presence in every person and every moment, and to live their faith through action and community.
We invite each pupil to grow in relationship with God, embracing faith, hope and love.
We empower our boys to recognise God’s presence in themselves, one another, and in the world around them, in the classroom, on the sports field, in service and in daily life.
We encourage children to live out faith through integrity, kindness, justice and compassion. This means learning to lead, to serve, and to stand up for what is right, reflecting our Jesuit principle of being men for others.
We foster an environment of prayer, worship and reflection, because our faith is not just learnt but lived. At Loyola, liturgy, prayer and collective worship are central to our school life.
Our school community is rooted in love, respect and mutual dignity. Each boy is valued, nurtured and encouraged on his unique spiritual journey. Families from all Christian traditions, other faiths or none are welcomed, and we trust that everyone in our community contributes to respecting our Catholic character. Participation in acts of shared worship reflects our belief that faith thrives through communal life and personal engagement.
Our RE policy outlines the rationale and structure of our teaching programme, how much time is devoted to RE, how topics progress through the years, and how we build knowledge, skills and attitudes. In addition, our yearly overview shows when each theme is covered, and our termly RE newsletter offers ideas and support to you as parents, helping you to join with us in your child’s faith journey.
Together, school, home and parish, we form a partnership committed to nurturing young men who are spiritually grounded, morally upright, academically curious and ready to serve. We hope that through RE at Loyola, our boys will flourish not only as learners but as compassionate individuals with a sense of purpose.
