    Caring for Creation

    Caring for Creation

This is about our call to care for the world. This is because, we as Catholics, believe that the Earth and all it contains has been created as a gift for us by God. The resources of the Earth are not infinite. They have been given to us and to future generations. How we treat the Earth has a real impact on people now and in the future.

    God's beautiful world

Loyola Prep boy in our groundsCaring for the world is an important part of our Catholic calling, as we believe that the Earth and all it contains is a gift from God. The resources of our planet are not infinite, and how we treat them has a real impact on people today and in the future.

Recently, Kinder spent time in our school grounds creating their own ‘God’s Beautiful World’ projects, exploring nature and discovering the lessons it can teach us. Through this activity, they learnt to see the beauty in everyday life and to appreciate the importance of looking after the environment. By respecting and caring for the world around them, they are not only able to enjoy it themselves but also ensure that future generations can experience its wonder and richness, living out the call to stewardship and responsibility that is central to our faith.

    MARY'S GARDEN

Loyola Prep boys gardeningDuring the month of May, Loyola families are invited to donate flowers and plants in honour of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Here at Loyola, we have a quiet area featuring a beautiful statue of Our Lady, where throughout May we gather to recite the Rosary, creating a peaceful and welcoming space for the boys to pray in tranquillity.

This year, members of our CAFOD Club carefully planted the donations, which will now be nurtured and looked after by the Path Lighters. This activity reflects our Catholic call to care for the world, recognising that the Earth and all it contains is a gift from God. The resources of our planet are not infinite, and the way we treat them has a real impact on people today and in the future. By planting and tending these flowers and plants, the boys are learning to respect creation, appreciate its beauty, and take responsibility for caring for the world for themselves and for generations to come.

    Bird watching

Their homework involved observing the birds in their gardens or local parks, noting the differences between species and reflecting on what made each one unique and special.

This activity encouraged them to notice and appreciate the beauty of God’s creation, helping them understand that the more we know and value the creatures around us, the more likely we are to care for and protect the world.

By engaging with nature in this hands-on way, the boys learnt that every living thing has its place and purpose, and that looking after the Earth is a responsibility and a privilege that allows us to share its gifts with others, now and in the future.
