Recently, our Reception boys had the special opportunity to lead Mass for the very first time — a meaningful moment in their journey at our school and one that brought the entire community together in worship and celebration.
At our school, each class is invited to lead a Mass throughout the year. This includes readings from the Bible, as well as prayers and reflections thoughtfully written by the boys themselves. It’s a chance not only to engage with scripture, but also to reflect on the Gospel and express their understanding in their own words.
For our youngest pupils, this first experience of leading Mass is both exciting and formative. It helps develop their public speaking skills, builds their confidence, and encourages them to think deeply about the message of the Gospel and what it means in their lives. It was a joy to see the Reception boys speak clearly and proudly, sharing their prayers and reflections with great sincerity.
As a Catholic school that welcomes boys of all faiths, these acts of worship are a cornerstone of our shared life. Every boy, regardless of religious background, takes part in this time of reflection and reverence, supporting the values and ethos that guide our community.
Our school is blessed to receive the support of priests who come from a wide range of faith communities. We are incredibly grateful to the clergy who give their time each week to celebrate Mass with us, and to the staff and families who prepare and support the boys behind the scenes.
Reception’s first Mass was a beautiful reminder of the importance of giving children the space to grow in faith, speak from the heart, and come together as one community to celebrate the Word of God.
