We Mark World Mental Health Day with #HelloYellow

On Friday 10th October, we came together in a sea of yellow to support Hello Yellow, a nationwide campaign led by the charity YoungMinds. The initiative raises awareness for young people’s mental health, while also fundraising to ensure no child or teenager faces mental health struggles alone.

Our boys proudly wore yellow t-shirts, socks, jumpers, and even crowns, small but powerful symbols of solidarity with the thousands of young people across the UK who are affected by mental health challenges. The day was filled with colour, conversation, and a strong sense of unity, as pupils and staff reflected on the importance of supporting one another not just today, but every day.

At Loyola, this initiative aligns closely with our Catholic Social Teaching, particularly the principle of Community and Participation. As a school community, we are reminded that God did not make us to live in isolation, but to grow in relationship with others. Through our friendships, families, and wider community, we are called to be present, to listen, and to act with compassion.

By taking part in Hello Yellow, our pupils experienced this teaching in action: coming together to raise awareness, showing their support for those who may be struggling, and learning the importance of standing as one community. In doing so, they not only deepened their understanding of mental health but also contributed to a more caring and hopeful world.

It is vital that our boys learn, from an early age, that mental health is just as important as physical health. Campaigns such as #helloyellow give us the chance to talk about these issues openly, while also living out our faith through community and support.

Wearing yellow on World Mental Health Day may be a simple act, but for our boys it became a profound expression of love, hope, and faith in action. We are proud of how our boys embraced the spirit of the day.
