As the half term drew to a close, our school community gathered at the iconic Lee Valley Athletics Centre for a Sports Day to remember. This world-class venue, famously used as a training ground during the London 2012 Olympic Games, provided an inspiring backdrop for our pupils to shine—not in classrooms, but on the track and field.
There’s something special about walking in the footsteps of Olympians. The Lee Valley Centre, with its Olympic legacy and professional facilities, set the stage for an exhilarating day of sporting spirit, teamwork and celebration. Our pupils were thrilled to compete in such a prestigious arena, with many commenting on how it made them feel “like real athletes.”
But Sports Day at our school is about far more than medals and finish lines. It is a celebration of the whole child—a core value at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child has their moment to shine, and for many, this day offers a platform to showcase talents that aren’t always seen in the classroom.
From high-energy sprints and relays to determined long jumps and impressive shot puts, our pupils demonstrated not only physical skill but resilience, encouragement of others, and sheer joy in participating. These moments remind us that success comes in many forms—through effort, teamwork, personal bests and the courage to try something new.
A particular highlight of the day—and undoubtedly the boys’ favourite event—was the tug of war. This high-energy showdown saw house teams go head-to-head across year groups, pulling with all their might in a brilliant display of strength, teamwork and house spirit. The roars of encouragement from teammates and spectators alike made it one of the most electric moments of the day.
Our events and activities are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. Whether a child is a natural sprinter or simply giving it their all, we value and applaud their commitment and contribution equally. It’s this inclusive ethos that fosters confidence and encourages a lifelong love of physical activity, which is so important for future health and well-being.
Of course, no Sports Day would be complete without the infamous parents’ race—and this year, it certainly didn’t disappoint. We absolutely love seeing parents get involved, sharing in the fun and modelling the joy of movement for their children. Their participation adds so much to the day and reinforces the sense of community that makes our school so special.
As a school, we are proud to nurture not just academic success, but well-rounded young people. Our annual Sports Day is a powerful reminder of how sport can inspire, unite, and uplift—and we look forward to seeing how the seeds of this special day will continue to grow in our pupils’ lives.
